Please remember that certain offices are across the International Dateline. The dates above are their dates, not the actual U.S. date.

Rising Ocean Freight Rates and Port Congestion

Spot rates continue to surge fueled by a strong demand, reduced vessel capacity and increasing container shortage due to ongoing Red-Sea disruptions, vessel re-deployments and worsening port congestion.

 

Severe terminal congestion is affecting ports worldwide with the biggest bottlenecks in Asia, particularly in South and Northeast Asia, and Mediterranean ports.

 

The increased volumes and congestion are causing higher turn times at the terminal, delays leading to demurrage and detention charges, limited equipment and chassis split charges among other effects. 

 

Trucking companies may be assessing congestion surcharges due to the extended wait times at the ports. Limited terminal appointments are causing delays in empty returns resulting in additional trucking fees such as redelivery charges.

 

We would like to remind you to book your shipments with a lead time of several weeks prior to planned shipping dates.
