JOB SUMMARY This position is primarily responsible for receiving the freight from customers, drivers, and sub-haulers and documenting the condition of the freight when received.
WORK ENVIRONMENT In performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly working in a warehouse environment and is exposed to moving mechanical parts, dust, airborne particles, loud noises and vibrations while working in the warehouse.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, and repeatedly mount/dismount a forklift. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 70 pounds.
I) GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- This is a full-time position requiring daily attendance during your established office hours as determined by Management. You must clock in at the beginning of the workday and you must clock out at the end of the workday. You must also clock out at the beginning of each meal period and clock in at the end of the same meal period. No work can be performed during the meal period, which may be spent on or off the Company’s premises as the time is considered a non-working time and is unpaid. If an employee knows they will be late for work, the employee should make a call to their immediate Supervisor before the start of their shift. It is essential to the job to be on time every scheduled workday to be work ready to serve our customers.
- This position may require overtime, which may only be worked when a Supervisor/Manager approves the time in advance of working the overtime.
- The work output and quality of the work and customer service must be of the highest caliber.

B. Quality Management System Policy and Procedures- Recommends steps to strengthen procedures in any given area when the procedures in effect are noted to be inadequate or weak.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager and/or President.
II) JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Greets drivers and informs them as to wait time before unloading.
- Obtains Bill of Lading from the driver when ready to unload.
- Puts freight on pallets or drives into the trailer to unload the freight.
- Before staging freight, examines freight to determine adequacy of packaging and crush damage, staining or holes - anything that might indicate damage. If damage is found, an exception report is written up, and an exception taken on the original Bill of Lading.
- Before staging freight, counts freight and determines if the number of pieces indicated on the Bill of Lading is the number of pieces received. If a difference is found, the supervisor is called, an Exception Report is written up and an exception taken on the original Bill of Lading.
- Marks freight with felt pen or chalk. The number of pieces on the pallet should be indicated over the number of pieces on the Bill of Lading.
- Puts receiver sticker (color coded square) on freight (each pallet or piece of shipment) and matching sticker on freight bill.
- Obtains the signature of the customer's driver, (or our driver or sub-hauler) on the exception as noted on the original Bill of Lading and the Exception Report in the case of damage or over/short situations.
- Signs the freight bill indicating name, company name, date and any exceptions. Also the number of pieces is circled and receiving code.
- Cubes the freight, indicating the measurement on the front of the Bill of Lading and cube on the header. Places freight in the correct staging area, and turns the Bill of Lading into the Routing Clerk for processing.
- Stages the freight.
- As needed, attach the header to freight with 1 piece of tape in the left hand corner. "Eyeballs" cubes when tagging (usually a Tagman function).
- When needed, extends cube measurements and notes total cube on header (usually a Tagman function).
- Establishes a good working relationship with all customers, drivers and sub-haulers.
- Primarily responsible to outturn and reload eastbound shipments.
- Measure and record dimensions of freight.
- Confirm piece count
- Verify weight on scale
- Place into the Air Freight staging area.
- Attends monthly operations/safety meetings.
- Follow and maintain the Company's Quality Policy and Procedures.
- Performs duties as assigned by Management.
III) AUTHORITY:- 1) Recommends the taking of exceptions for merchandise with a variety of receiving problems.
- 2) Recommends refusal of freight to the Operations Manager.
- 3) Accepts incoming freight on the company's behalf.
- All employment with the Company is “at-will” and either the employer or the employee may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause and with or without notice. This employment at-will provision constitutes a single integrated contract between the employee and the Company, encompassing the entire agreement of the parties. There are no other agreements, written or oral, express or implied, prior or collateral, between the parties, except the agreement set forth in this paragraph. All disputes regarding your employment with the Company, or the termination of your employment, will be subject to final and binding arbitration pursuant to the company’s Mutual Arbitration Policy, Addendum A (Refer to the Employee Handbook).
