Matson’s operational updates based on National Weather Service
forecast information for Hurricanes Madeline and Lester as of 2300 HST on
August 30 are listed below:
Big Island
There is a hurricane
watch in effect for the Big Island.
U.S. Coast Guard
closed Big Island ports at 2000 until further notice.
Hurricane Madeline was 62 nautical miles east of Hilo and tracking just south
of the Big Island. It is expected to bring possible hurricane force winds,
heavy rains, and high surf to parts of the Big
Island Wednesday / Thursday.
Hurricane Lester, still more than 1,100 miles east of the Big Island and moving
at 10 knots, was forecast to pass north of the Big Island on
Saturday/Sunday. Weather Service forecasts of potential impacts will be
provided as they are known.
Oahu, Maui, Kauai
We are continuing to
monitor the progress of both Hurricanes and will update vessel schedules and
operations as needed.
